I am definitely one of the '“breakfast is the most important meal of the day” believers — but only because it fits ME and my lifestyle the best. I first of all LOVE all breakfast foods! All meals should be breakfast food if it was up to me. I secondly am the hungriest in the morning - starving. With all of this plus my workout routine and lifestyle throughout the day, I choose to have a nice large CARB heavy breakfast.
Let me explain carb heavy….it first doesn’t mean an insane amount of bread and sugar. It just means - for me - it’s the meal with the most amount of carbs I have in a day. Now, I’m no professional nutritionist or anything, so I should definitely mention that this is all just what I found works best for me (from trial and error throughout the years) — always consult with a doctor or nutritionist on what may be best for you!
Stocking up on my HEALTHYish carb load in the morning allows me to essentially stay more full throughout the day. My meals after 12 pm usually are less, and full of more protein and veggies/fruits. I also have the rest of the day to burn off my big breakfast!
So what could a normal breakfast look for me when I have a jam packed day (i.e. work 8-10 hours, dog walking, plus an intense hour+ workout)? Something like the above is a go-to for me on those busy days. Of course an avocado toast is perfect! You got your protein, healthy fats, and usually a wheat or gluten-free toast. Throwing in that whole wheat bagel with a little butter is what puts me over the top to feeling just the perfect amount of full. It doesn’t leave me tired, but fueled to keep me going the whole day without the need to snack every 30 minutes.
IN A NUTSHELL, here’s what a more carb packed breakfast gives me:
Fuel for the day to keep me from over snacking in the afternoon
Energy to burn off the calories throughout the day
More protein and veggie filled meals in the afternoon
Happiness :)
